Lawn mowing prices by lawn size (2026)

Typical per-visit prices for mowing, trimming, edging and blowing a lawn with some beds and trees, at average US rates. Larger lawns cost less per acre because travel and setup are spread over more grass.

How much to charge for lawn mowing

Good mowing prices check three things against each other:

The going rate

What customers near you already pay for a lawn this size, mowed this often.

Your time on site

Mowing plus trimming, edging and blowing, plus driving, unloading and loading the trailer.

Your margin

Labor, overhead and fuel divided by one minus your target margin: $40 ÷ 0.75 ≈ $53.

The calculator suggests the higher of your cost-based price and the typical market price, so you never mow below cost and never leave money on the table where customers expect to pay more.

What makes a lawn cost more

Weekly price vs monthly billing

Many customers prefer a flat monthly bill. Multiply the per-visit price by the average visits per month — about 4.33 for weekly and 2.17 for biweekly service — and round to a clean number. The monthly figure in the calculator is that average.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I charge to mow a lawn?

For weekly mowing, trimming, edging and blowing in an average US market, a quarter-acre lawn typically runs about $55 per visit ($45–$80) and a one-acre lawn about $110 ($60–$175). Check that the price covers your time on site, travel and overhead, and set a minimum per stop.

Should I charge more for biweekly mowing?

Yes. Grass that grows for two weeks is taller and thicker, so it takes longer to cut and leaves more clippings. Most contractors charge about 15–25% more per visit for biweekly service than for weekly; this calculator uses +20%.

How much should I charge for an overgrown lawn or first cut?

Overgrown lawns often need two passes, extra trimming and clipping cleanup. A one-time or first cut is commonly priced 30–60% above a regular weekly visit, or as the regular price plus a $20–$60 long-grass surcharge. The calculator uses +50% for one-time / overgrown jobs.

How do I measure a lawn for mowing?

Measure only the grass you mow, not the whole lot. Start with the lot size (from the county property record or a satellite map tool), then subtract the house footprint, driveway, patios and planting beds. The calculator has a helper for this.

What minimum should I charge per lawn?

Small lawns still cost you a trip, unloading and loading. Many solo operators set a minimum of roughly $35–$50 per stop. This calculator uses $40 by default; change it to match your business.
